The Paris 2024 Olympics certainly ended with a bang, and quite an eerie one at that. The closing ceremony began with the lights dimming before a figure, symbolising a gold metallic alien, made its descent into Stade de France. This spectacle was followed by hundreds of performers clad in grey ruched outfits engaging in various acrobatics, as the choreography aimed to depict a future where extraterrestrial visitors reflect on life on Earth.

Although the event was visually impressive, it seems some BBC viewers weren't as captivated as they were during the London 2012 Olympics.

Twitter user @Gallagherlad95 declared: "Nothing is ever topping the London 2012 one. Apart from Jessie J ruining a Queen classic it was the absolute best #ClosingCeremony," while @slouisew chimed in: "This hasn't got anything on London 2012 #ClosingCeremony.".

Echoing the sentiment, another tweet from @Gallagherlad95 read: "Nothing is ever topping the London 2012 one. Apart from Jessie J ruining a Queen classic it was the absolute best #ClosingCeremony." Another viewer @VeritasFilia27 wrote: "As far as raising the Olympics rings go, London 2012 did it best and wasn't as terrifying as whatever this hell is #ClosingCeremony." And @vernitosl shared their discomfort: "This is just making me feel uncomfortable man, run back London 2012 where everyone just had a party and we ran the Spice Girls around in taxis #ClosingCeremony." While viewer @marineost affirmed: "Nobody's ever gonna do better than London 2012 with the Spice Girls reuniting and one direction singing during the closing ceremony #ClosingCeremony." The 2012 London Olympics Closing Ceremony was a hit, featuring Jessie J and Queen belting out the anthem 'We Will Rock You'.
