The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) recently announced the 2023/24 timetable for new cost of living payments aimed at helping millions of households across the country mitigate soaring inflation and ever-increasing energy bills.
This means that millions of households across Scotland and the rest of the country will be supported by additional cost of living payments.
The payments are made up of £900 for people on an eligible means-tested benefit, £300 for pensioner households and £150 for people on disability benefits, including the devolved Adult and Child Disability Payments in Scotland. The £900 payments are being made in three instalments with the first for £301 due to be made to those on eligible benefits in the Spring No specific dates have been announced or a qualifying period which means people of State Pension age may be entitled to the extra cash if they make a new claim for Pension Credit - sooner, rather than later. This would be in addition to the new £300 pensioner cost of living payment which will be added to Winter Fuel Payments for 2023/24 - same premise as last year.
People can check their eligibility for Pension Credit using the online calculator or by calling the Pension Credit helpline on 0800 99 1234.
