Rail users are being urged not to travel on certain Manchester train routes over the bank holiday weekend. Northern Rail have issued a warning to those travelling on Sunday, August 25, that a train crew will be unavailable.

A number of services will be affected, and the rail company has advised customers to not travel. Alternative travel will not be available for the routes listed. It added: "The Cumbrian coast line between Lancaster and Carlisle is also expected to see an extremely reduced service and we may not be able to provide a return journey. "Other services in and around the North West may be subject to disruption and very short notice cancellations. "For routes that are operating we encourage everyone to plan ahead and check journeys before travelling, particularly last trains of the day which may be earlier than usual and may be cancelled at short notice.

If you do travel, please leave yourself plenty of time to do so and don't rely on last services. "Trains currently showing may not run, our control teams are working to update the train plan but you should check closer to the time of travel."
