North Lanarkshire Council is the first Scottish local authority to achieve breastfeeding friendly recognition. A report presented to the Wellbeing and Tackling Poverty report highlighted the work that has been ongoing since 2021 to improve historically low rates of breastfeeding in the area, which for years have been worse than the Scottish average.Through collaboration with the NHS and Scottish Government involving a input from health and nutrition experts, the council has worked to promote a positive breastfeeding culture.
