Balaclava-clad bikers who ran riot at Hyde Market are not thought to be local, an MP said, as he praised the police's response to the chaos.

Footage emerged over the weekend of an armed group terrorising the market. Bikers were seen with what appeared to be a baseball bat and a pair of bolt cutters as they left shoppers horrified last Friday afternoon (August 25).

MP Jonathan Reynolds, Labour and Co-op MP for Stalybridge, Hyde, Mossley, Longdendale and Dukinfield, has shared a new update provided by police on Thursday (August 31) and thanked officers for their response to the 'armed biker incident' and their efforts to bring 'out of town criminals to justice'. In an update shared publicly by Mr Reynolds, GMP Inspector Toby Knight said he was 'shocked and disappointed' by the carnage and that it is believed those involved are 'not local to the Tameside area' and that it was a 'one off incident'.

A dispersal order was issued on Hyde Market over the weekend as police stepped up patrols following the incident. So far no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
