Manchester United investment hopeful Sir Jim Ratcliffe is on the verge of having his minority acquisition formally confirmed.
Ratcliffe has been the frontrunner to purchase a 25 per cent stake in United since October when Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani withdrew from the process.
Since the Qatari banker's decision to rule himself out of buying the Reds, there has been uncertainty among fans about the Glazers remaining at the club.
The 1958 fan group organised a peaceful protest last Saturday at Old Trafford calling for a full sale only. Ratcliffe's task now is to win over those who are sceptical, one of whom is former United centre-back Rio Ferdinand, and the INEOS chief could get off to a good start with his first major hire.
