Manchester United coach Paul McShane is set to take up a new role as part of the Republic of Ireland Under-21s' backroom staff.

The 37-year-old will remain in his current club position as lead academy coach for United U15s while combining his work as an assistant for Jim Crawford at youth international level.

McShane has already achieved his UEFA A Licence and was accepted onto the Football Association of Ireland’s UEFA Pro Licence course earlier this year.

The former defender will join up with the Ireland Under-21 players and staff ahead of next week's games against Turkey and San Marino.
