Man fighting for life as emergency services scrambled to Stockport beauty spot

A popular walking spot in Stockport has been shut off after a man was injured. Emergency services were scrambled to the area near Marple Aqueduct at around 10:45am this morning.

Greater Manchester Police said they were called to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man. He was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson said there are believed to be no suspicious circumstances. Officers remain at the scene this afternoon with a cordon still in place on the Peak Forest Canal towpath.

People are being asked to avoid the area.
