Phillips cost the Premier League champions £42.5million in 2022. However, while the 28-year-old managed to grab three medals in his first 12 months at the club as part of their history-making treble-winning squad, he did not have anywhere near as much game-time as he would have liked.
His woes continued in that respect at West Ham last season during an unsuccessful loan spell. Phillips started just three Premier League games for the Hammers in four months - but that was still one more than he managed at City in the preceding year and a half.
