Lanarkshire club swimmer makes splash at national championship winning three medals

An athlete at a Lanarkshire swimming club has made a splash representing the region at a national championship, winning three medals.Mikey Hobbs of Rutherglen Amateur Swimming Club (RASC) took part in three races at the first Scottish Learning Disability Summer National Games, representing the West of Scotland.The 23-year-old won a gold medal in 100m freestyle, silver in 50m butterfly and bronze in the 50m backstroke.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

This is a massive achievement for him. You could see how much he wanted to do well and really pushed to do well.“Mikey is a character, always smiling and telling funny stories, everyone in the club knows who he is and everyone is his biggest fan.“We love to celebrate achievements in the club and are always so happy when it is one of Mikey’s as he has fewer opportunities than some of our other swimmers.“Everyone is so pleased for him, it is great for him to be able to be part of our success stories and be part of the buzz that comes when someone does well.“This buzz then carries on through our training sessions and helps everyone train that little bit harder to strive for
