Lanarkshire carer warned over conduct due to accepting payments from service user

A Lanarkshire carer has been given a warning after accepting several payments from a vulnerable service user. Lynn Langford accepted a total of £380 from the service user, named only as AA, which the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) described as “an abuse of trust of people who use services”.

Langford, from Lanark, provided AA with details of her bank account on four occasions, accept payments amounting to the sum of £300 from AA via a colleague’s PayPal account, contacted them on Facebook Messenger requesting money and accepting a pair of trainers from the service user.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Sending AA a friend request on Facebook, corresponding with AA via Facebook Messenger and accepting a pair of trainers from AA amounts to a breach of professional boundaries.“The behaviour demonstrates that you (Langford) have formed an inappropriate relationship with AA, as you have potentially created an unrealistic expectation that all social service workers will communicate in this way.“This behaviour falls below the acceptable standard of care expected of a social service worker and
