Scots warned over frightening 'crash for cash' fraud as scammers target motorists

Drivers have been warned to look out for a new 'crash for cash' fraud which has seen scammers travel to Scotland to cause smashes and cash in on insurance money.

Insurance company LV believe that the increase is being driven by a law change in England and Wales that has reduced the amount of compensation drivers are entitled to following a whiplash claim.

It means crooks are now travelling to Scotland in a bid to cash in.'Crash for cash' works by targeting innocent motorists to become the ‘at fault driver’ in an accident by slamming on the breaks to cause an accident.

And in the past year alone, there has been a 60% rise in the number of personal injury claims reported to LV in Scotland.Alan Gibbs was one of those who fell victim to the scam as he travelled to Largs in September last year.

Yossman A Daniel Craig-voiced aid appeal for victims of the tragic earthquakes in Turkey and Syria earlier this month is set to run across 29 networks simultaneously in the U.K. on Friday evening. Media companies including Warner Bros. Discovery, Channel 4, ITV, UKTV, Channel 5 and Sky have gifted advertising space for the 90-second Disasters Emergency Committee appeal, which will run at 9.55pm local time. Channel 4 will also run the advert on its YouTube channel from Friday until Sunday. R Kelly sentenced to 20 years in relation to Chicago sex abuse conviction
R Kelly was yesterday sentenced to 20 years in prison in relation to his convictions in a Chicago court last year on three charges of enticing minors to engage in criminal sexual activity and three more linked to him filming that sexual abuse of children.However, most of that sentence will happen concurrently to the 30 year jail term he is already serving after being found guilty in a New York court of setting up and running a criminal enterprise in order to access and abuse women and teenagers.Prosecutors in the Chicago case had been pushing for the new jail term to be served following the existing one, which would basically mean that the 56 year old musician would die in prison. However, judge Harry Leinenweber ruled that only one year would need to be served following the 30 year New York sentence.Among the reasons presented by prosecutors for why Kelly should serve his second jail term after the first was that the former music star has failed to show any remorse for his crimes.However, his lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean – who strongly argued for concurrent jail terms – said that Kelly’s silence through most of the legal proceedings he has faced in recent years should not be viewed as a lack of remorse.According to the Associated Press, she told the court that she had advised Kelly to not speak at the latest hearing because he continues to appeal his convictions and could yet face further legal action.

Aboriginal filmmaker Ivan Sen has twice before dabbled in the harsh, dry space where those genre possibilities overlap, in his features “Goldstone” and “Mystery Road.” In his latest, most accomplished film “Limbo,” he once more surveys the region with a critical eye, finding a history of racial injustice in its sharp cracks and long shadows. But the genre styling this time has been pushed all the way to stark, monochromatic stylization. This is outback noir — oblique, secretive and as hard-boiled as the ground is hard-baked — and Sen wears it well.

Morgan Wallen’s ex, KT Smith, was in a nasty car crash in Nashville on Wednesday and revealed she suffered bad facial injuries as a result. Courteeners, English Teacher and Louis Tomlinson were among the acts to be honoured at the first-ever Northern Music Awards.The inaugural ceremony – hosted by the UK’s largest music therapy charity, Nordoff And Robbins – took place at the Albert Hall in Manchester last night (April 23) to celebrate northern artists, festivals, venues and industry figures.Presented by BBC Radio 6 Music DJ Chris Hawkins, the event featured live performances from Courteeners frontman Liam Fray, as well as English Teacher, Lisa Stansfield, The K’s and more.Guest presenters from the region included former Manchester United footballer Gary Neville, New Order‘s Gillian Gilbert and Stephen Norris, and Grimsby-born actor Thomas Turgoose (This Is England). ‌ Neville awarded Courteeners with the Band Of The Year prize. Responding to the nod, Fray said: “It’s really nice to be in a room with this much talent… but this isn’t about us, it’s about Nordoff And Robbins and the work that they do, it’s about music, and the way they’re changing lives with music and sometimes even saving lives with music.”The singer also delivered an acoustic rendition of Courteeners’ classic single ‘Not Nineteen Forever’ and a cover of Oasis‘ ‘The Masterplan’.Rising Leeds band English Teacher picked up the Best Newcomer award, and performed ‘Albatross’ and ‘Albert Road’ from their acclaimed debut album ‘This Could Be Texas’ (watch the video below)..@Englishteac_her commanding the stage with the first song off their album.
