Deborah Morales, Abdul-Jabbar’s rep, said in a statement on social media that the injury resulted from a fall. “Last night, while attending a concert, Kareem had an accidental fall and broke his hip,” she said. “He will have surgery today.

The 7-foot-2 Jabbar, is a Hall of Famer who won six NBA titles, five of them as a member of the LA Lakers. Since his retirement in 1989, he has become known for his work as an activist and writer.
