An 81-year-old man has been arrested following a collision that left another man with serious injuries. The injured man was rushed to hospital after being hit by a car as he crossed a main road in Gorton.

Officers cordoned off Hyde Road (A57) in both directions after the collision on Monday (January 1), which is thought to have happened at around 4.55pm as the man was attempting to cross the road.

Within the large cordon, the red Vauxhall Corsa involved was also pictured parked on the kerb outside the Waggon and Horses pub with police tape surrounding it, as officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit carried out enquires at the scene late into the evening.
