Well, the world of Lucasfilm just got a lot clearer. “The Mandalorian” season four? Nope, as we just reported, instead, Jon Favreau will be directing a movie tentatively titled, for now, “The Mandalorian and Grogu.” That’s a surprise movie because previously, we only knew of three movies in the works: one from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (‘The Jedi Order’ film with Rey), one from James Mangold (the ‘Dawn Of the Jedi’ about the origins of the Jedi, and one from Dave Filoni (presumed to be “Heir To The Empire” which will be the finale of all the Disney+ stories with the Mandalorian on the big screen).

Rosario Dawson, Hayden Christensen, and Lucasfilm Creative Chief Dave Filoni were on the Happy Sad Confused podcast to discuss the “Star Wars” series “Ahsoka” this week (read our review). And while all eyes are on season two of “Ahsoka,” which Filoni says he’s writing, so it’s presumably on the way at some point, many fans are wondering what’s going on with the feature-length film.

Following the “Star Wars: Ahsoka” series created by writer/director/producer Dave Filoni, who wrote all eight episodes himself and directed two, Lucasfilm has named the filmmaker the Chief Creative Officer at the company. “Now I’m what’s called chief creative officer of Lucasfilm,” Filoni told Vanity Fair this week, and noting the role will place him in the early development process of all “Star Wars” projects and in a much more expansive capacity than his previous advisory duties.

Ahsoka, the latest live-action Star Wars spin-off series, premiered in August and picked up the story of Ahsoka Tano, a Jedi who first appeared in The Mandalorian season 2.The series, which is streaming on Disney+ and wraps up today (October 3), follows the titular character as she wanders through the galaxy in search of the villain Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen, reprising his voice role from Rebels). Other cast members include Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.An official synopsis for the show reads: “Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka will follow the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.”In a three-star review of Ahsoka season one, NME wrote: “This isn’t the grounded grit of Andor and it isn’t the stripped-back sweep of The Mandalorian nor the multiplex ambition of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but Ahoska has more than enough of its own charm and electricity to be something greater than filler.”At the time of writing, Ahsoka has not been renewed for a second season.

Star Wars fans have one key gripe about the first two episodes of Ahsoka, involving a certain character’s survival.At the end of the show’s first episode, Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) is stabbed in the stomach during a lightsaber duel with Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno).While it appeared as if she had been killed, Sabine is seen alive in a hospital bed in the next episode – with no explanation as to how she survived.This isn’t the first time a Star Wars character has survived a seemingly fatal lightsaber wound. In the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, Third Sister Reva (Moses Ingram) survives a stab wound from Darth Vader, while the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend) is similarly brought back to life following a lightsaber injury.Darth Maul was also revived in Star Wars: The Clone Wars despite being cut in half in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.Following Sabine’s survival in Ahsoka, many have since pointed out the inconsistencies with past deaths in the Star Wars franchise – namely Qui-Gon Jinn’s (Liam Neeson) death after he’s stabbed in the stomach by Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace.“I don’t know how I feel about yet again someone getting stabbed in the stomach by a lightsaber and surviving,” one viewer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.Another added: “Besides Sabine getting stabbed in the abdomen and surviving, the two episodes were solid.

Star Wars has finally confirmed the identity of the masked lightsaber wielder from the Ahsoka trailers. According to the official Star Wars website, the character’s name is Marrok. While they wear the armor of an Inquisitor, that life is long behind them.

Back in October, I was able to get reliable information that said Danish actor Lars Mikkelsen, brother of Mads Mikkelsen, was indeed set to reprise the role of Grand Admiral Thrawn in live-action for Dave Filoni’s “Star Wars” series, “Ahsoka.” And today during the show’s panel at Star Wars Celebration in London the studio made it official by having Mikkelsen appear on stage (see below).

We are just a week away from the debut of Season 3 of the hit Disney+ series, “The Mandalorian.” The first, and most popular, live-action “Star Wars” series on the streamer is set to continue the story of a lone warrior and his little friend as they travel around the galaxy and get into all sorts of hijinks. But even though Season 3 has yet to even debut, series showrunner Jon Favreau is already teasing the fact that Season 4 is already written.

The 43-year-old actress will continue to play the Force-sensitive fighter in the upcoming spinoff,, which follows the adventures of the character first established in the animated series . While speaking to ET at  Celebration in Anaheim, California, Dawson gushed over being able to be the “literal physical embodiment” of this character, which comes long after fans campaigned for her to bring the role to life onscreen. “I really love being able to not just try to imagine this character to life, you know, [and] to get to take her on physically,” she said.

With “The Book of Boba Fett” in the rearview, Lucasfilm is putting its attention towards other upcoming streaming series. The third season of “The Mandalorian” is the most recent “Star Wars” show to go in front of cameras, even though star Pedro Pascal has been shooting “The Last of Us” in Calgary, Alberta simultaneously.

Lucasfilm might still be struggling to bring movies to the big screen (see the indefinitely delayed Patty Jenkins “Star Wars: Rogue Squadron” project), but they are having much better luck on Disney+ and television. The next major direction the company seems to be pushing towards is bringing as many of their beloved animated characters into a live-action environment.
