The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has warned against 'misinformation' after the gender controversy over tests of Algerian boxer Imane Khelif.

The governing body has said it is 'saddened' by the abuse she has received following her 46-second victory over Italian boxer Angela Carini in just 46 seconds.

It comes after Khelif was barred from competing in last year's World Championships due to high testosterone levels. The IOC has now responded to criticism of their eligibility criteria, saying testosterone is 'not a perfect test' and that all athletes competing 'comply with the competition's eligibility and entry regulations'.

They added any 'current aggression' was a result of 'a sudden and arbitrary decision' to bar Khelif from the World Championships, made 'without due process'. READ NEXT: Could the Piccadilly Gardens bus station be moved?
