Police have released a statement after a horrific video of a police officer stamping on a man's head as he lays on the ground in Manchester airport was widely circulated on social media.The shocking footage was taken on Wednesday, July 24 and shows a male officer aiming a taser at a man as he lies on the floor before kicking him in the head as concerned onlookers ask them to stop.Police say they were called to an "altercation" between members of the public in Terminal Two before the officers were subjected to a 'violent assault' while trying to make an arrest.The scenes of chaos continue as a person is heard yelling "move back" before a female officer then appears to turn her taser and aim it at other people, reports M.E.N.Several voices can be heard pleading "Stop kicking people" as more cops surround the man on the ground.Four men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray and assault of emergency service workers.

Police said a female officer was left with a broken nose and that the other officers were hospitalised. The force also said that there was a risk of the armed officers' 'firearms being taken'.The dramatic clip, shared widely on social media on Wednesday afternoon quickly received thousands of views online.Greater Manchester Police said they have 'acknowledged the concerns' regarding conduct and that the incident is being assessed by the Professional Standards Directorate.A force spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of an altercation between members of the public in Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport.“Whilst attempting to arrest one of the suspects of the earlier altercation, three officers were subject to a violent assault, where they were punched to the ground.
