Historic video of Scotland from 1901 shows life in Glasgow in 'beautiful' colour

Footage showing life in Glasgow back in 1901 has been uncovered that has been hailed as an "amazing historic film".These days, Jamaica Street in the centre of the city is known for being the home of iconic nightclub Sub Club, as well as The Crystal Palace Wetherspoon pub, but over 100 years ago, it was a very different story.

The video, shared on YouTube by Public Eye Studios, shows an everyday scene on the street back in 1901. Unlike most historical footage, the clip is in colour, making it even more immersive.In the footage, a large number of pedestrians can be seen walking along the road.

There is also a high number of horse-drawn carriages carrying goods and passengers.One of the first things viewers will notice about the video is the clothes of the era, which were predominantly dark in colour and far more formal than what you would see on the street today.Over the footage, a narrator can be heard stating: "Although earlier films of Glasgow exist, this is perhaps one of the most beautiful.
