'He said 'help, help'": Friend recalls moment tragedy struck as man, 26, killed by falling tree

'Work was carried out' on a tree just days before it fell on a man and killed him, an inquest has heard. Darnell Cordingley, 26, was working as a traffic warden when he was struck by the tree in Osborne Terrace, Sale.

He suffered a 'severe head injury' and died at the scene on October 6, 2022. Darnell's friend, Samuel Smart, who was with him at the time, was also seriously injured in the tragedy.

Just moments earlier, the two men had phoned an ambulance for a woman who had been involved in a cycling accident. READ MORE: Cops warn 'do not approach' this man as they appeal for help A jury inquest at Manchester South Coroner’s Court today (Thursday) heard that Darnell, from Altrincham, was working in the area when he was killed by the falling tree.

In a police interview read out in court, Mr Smart said he had gone to meet Darnell after his friend asked him to accompany him on his route.
