The death of a man who was killed by a tree that fell during 'strong winds' was 'unforeseeable', a coroner has ruled. Darnell Cordingley was working as a traffic warden when he was struck by the tree in Osborne Terrace, Sale.

The 26-year-old, from Altrincham, suffered a 'severe head injury' and died at the scene on the afternoon of October 6, 2022.

Darnell's friend, Samuel Smart, was also seriously injured after being hit by the Norway maple. It was last inspected by Trafford council four months prior to Darnell's death, but 'no obvious defects' were found. Moments before being hit by the tree, Darnell and Mr Smart had phoned an ambulance for a woman who had been involved in a cycling accident.
