George Armstrong, best known for playing Alan Humphries in drama series Grange Hill, has sadly passed away at the age of 60 on Tuesday 11 July.The actor lost his life after a 'long battle with leukaemia', with tributes from devastated fans pouring in as the news was revealed on Thursday morning.
A Grange Hill fan account wrote online: "I’ve just heard the very sad news that George Armstrong aka Alan Humphries passed away yesterday.
RIP George. A true Grange Hill legend xxxx." George was diagnosed with the cancer in 2017, relapsing in February 2019 after going into remission.
Following his diagnosis, the actor pledged to help charity Macmillan Cancer Support, often urging others to donate and take part in runs.
