George Clooney is heading to Broadway! On Monday (May 13), it was announced that the 63-year-old Oscar-winning actor will be making his Broadway acting and playwriting debut next spring in the stage adaption of his 2005 movie Good Night, and Good Luck. Murrow, “the pioneering newscaster whose storied broadcast career in the mid-20th century made him a journalism icon,” according to The New York Times. “I am honored, after all these years, to be coming back to the stage and especially, to Broadway, the art form and the venue that every actor aspires to,” George shared in a press release. George wrote the Broadway play with Grant Heslov, who also co-wrote the movie’s screenplay with George.
The two have also worked together on The Ides of March, The Monuments Men, and Suburbicon. George directed the Good Night, and Good Luck movie and played Fred W.
Friendly, the co-producer on Murrow’s TV program See It Now. Murrow was played by David Strathairn in the movie. David Cromer, who won a Tony Award for his direction of The Band’s Visit, will direct the new play.
