A £250,000 cancer appeal to send an Ayrshire lad to New York for specialist neuroblastoma treatment has smashed its fundraising target.More than a quarter-of-a-million has been raised in just FOUR months for Calum Rae from Troon. The brave four-year-old is battling stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma - a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer.Mum Victoria's world collapsed when she was told the horror news earlier this year after Calum's chickenpox turned out to be cancer earlier this year.Calum has faced gruelling treatment since March to keep the cancer, but the cancer is notorious for returning and becoming resistant treatment.Victoria and dad Andrew's hope the trial vaccine in New York will stop the disease returning, but treatment plus trips to the Big Apple costs a staggering £250,000.And the family were left with the daunting prospect of having to raise the funds by next year - in the hope that Calum enters remission and his life-saving stateside treatment could start. That vital fundraiser has now smashed it's original target, with the online fundraiser hitting £253,690.The amazing news was announced on Calum's official fundraiser page last night, with his family "blown away" by the total. It comes just as Calum was discharged from hospital after undergoing surgery to remove a tumour.A statement on Calum, Our Rae of Sunshine, said: "Calum was discharged today which we thought was going to be the best news of the day.

But, NOPE!!! We are at £253,355, this is absolutely incredible. We were completely blown away by a huge anonymous donation today, it is unbelievably generous."This target seemed so far out of our reach at first but the incredible efforts of so many has achieved this for us.
