A planned expansion to a historic Grade II listed pub include a new veranda and covered terrace for diners and drinkers. Pub company Greene King have submitted plans this week for the Blundell Arms, which sits on high ground next to the moors on Chorley Old Road, Horwich.

The Blundell, previously known as the Moorgate Inn has origins from the 17th century. The interior includes remaining areas of wattle and daub infill, ceiling timbers and fireplaces.

The Grade II listed building also holds interest as the Blundell Arms was historically used as a courthouse in the 18th and 19th centuries.

It was also used to host coroner’s inquests and the cellar has been used as a mortuary. Try MEN Premium for FREE by clicking here for no ads, fun puzzles and brilliant new features The planning application outlined the planned works to improve the building including a veranda and extended terrace.
