Ex Celtic trialist turns HYROX world sensation as fitness phenomenon eases pain of crushed football dream
dailyrecord.co.ukAn aspiring Scots footballer who saw his dream crushed after failed trials at Celtic and Fulham has become a world sensation at fitness phenomenon HYROX.Superfit Clydebank teen Luke Ennis is the youngest competitor on the global stage of the Germany-founded indoor fitness competition that is massively on the rise with a 1000% increase in participation in the past five years.The events sees competitors run for 1k before completing a functional movement station such as a rowing or wall balls, before you then run another kilometre and complete another station, until you've done all 8k and all eight stations.The competition is held across the world with people competing in cities such as London, Manchester, Mexico, Berlin, New York and Melbourne and Ennis is already making a name for himself at the age of just 17.
And it comes after failing to fulfil his dream of becoming a professional footballer despite trials at the Hoops, Fulham, Hamilton and Fleetwood City - the feeder club of Fleetwood Town in Dubai.
That fuelled his desire to make a career elsewhere and is now doing exactly that - with the death of his uncle Chris from a drugs overdose at the age of just 37 last year also providing inspiration.
He told Record Sport: "HYROX is massive with over half a million competitors competing in it. I suppose it's a variation of Ironman but it's indoors.
