A former Celtic player will stand trial accused of sexually assaulting a woman.Simon Lynch, 41, allegedly groped her at a flat in Glasgow’s Tollcross on February 6, 2020.Court papers state Lynch – who played five times for the Hoops – repeatedly entered her bedroom uninvited.It is claimed he repeatedly asked her to kiss him and touched her on the body.Lynch, who played for Preston, Dundee and Airdrie, is said to have seized her by the wrists.The charge says he sat astride her, placed her wrists above her head and pinned her to a bed.The former striker, of the city’s Mount Vernon, is then claimed to have seized and slapped her on the bottom.Lynch denies the single charge at Glasgow Sheriff Court.He had been due to face a summary trial – without a jury – last week but prosecutor Paige Phillips instead asked for a motion to adjourn until early next year. She said: “An essential Crown witness is not present and I am surprised as they have been in communication with my office.“The Crown should have the opportunity to do that.”The matter will call again in January.Lynch followed in the footsteps of father Andy, who captained Celtic, by playing at Parkhead between 1999 and 2001.After hanging up his boots, Canadian-born Lynch also embarked on a music career and even sang at Celtic Park.
