Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said they were alerted to worries for a man at an address on George Street at around 3pm. Locals said a wide area which included all of George Street, off Mealhouse Lane as well as Rosedale Avenue and Water Street, was taped off.
Police, including tactical aid unit (TAU) officers, paramedics, and fire crews were all said to be at the scene. The Manchester Evening News understands a police negotiator was deployed.
