A fire has ripped through an abandoned hotel in Edinburgh this evening. Emergency crews were alerted to the blaze at the previously fire-damaged former hotel in the capital city at around 6:30pm on Monday, August 14.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed that four appliances were despatched the Northfield House Hotel on Lasswade Road.An SFRS spokesperson said: “We’ve got four appliances there at the moment and a height appliance.”An image from the scene shows two police cars and two fire appliances at the scene.
It also shows a police cordon blocking off the road to traffic whilst emergency crews deal with the situation. The old hotel closed before the Covid-19 pandemic but three fires were reported in the space of a week earlier this month.Edinburgh Live reports that police are treating two blazes in one night, on August 1, as wilful fire raising.
It is believed that a planning application was approved last year on appeal to demolish what remains of the hotel and create new student accommodation in its place.Police Scotland has been appraoched for comment.
