Edinburgh high-rise inferno finally extinguished as crews evacuate 100 residents

Firefighters have extinguished an inferno at a high-rise flat in Edinburgh which saw 100 residents evacuated from their homes.Emergency services scrambled to the incident on Breadalbane Street in the Bonnington area of the capital after receiving the alarm 4.10 am on Thursday, March 14.

More than 70 firefighters and 12 fire engines were drafted to the scene at the height of the blaze.Sixteen hours on, a height appliance and six fire engines remain in attendance as crews dampen down hotspots and monitor the situation.

Two firefighters sustained minor superficial injuries during the incident and were assessed at the scene by the Scottish Ambulance Service.They did not require hospital treatment.

All residents were uninjured.Dramatic images show aggressive flames gripping the building during the early hours of Thursday as crews worked to contain the flames.
