East Kilbride Thistle boss Aaron Connolly was delighted as his side blew off the cobwebs with a 5-1 win at Saltcoats Vics, despite playing in horrendous conditions.In what was their first league game since December 3, with a four-times postponed WOS Cup tie against BSC Glasgow ‘B’ still to be played, doubles from Liam McLaughlin and Simon Millar were added to by a David Gray strike as Jags ran riot.That leaves Thistle ninth in the West of Scotland League Third Division, as they prepare for the trip to Girvan this weekend.Thrilled Connolly said: “I’m delighted with the result and the outcome, it’s a really big win for us in a really tough game for us, in all honesty.“It was as tough conditions as I’ve seen, in terms of the wind, rain and pitch and it was really challenging, so I’m absolutely delighted to come away with any sort of victory, let alone a 5-1 win.“There were times with the conditions where we were hanging on a little bit in the first half, playing into the wind and the goalkeeper was kicking the ball at times and having it come back 20 yards on you.“I’m really pleased with the result, but as I always say to the boys and try to maintain this, I’m just pleased with the performance level and the way that they tried to play, despite the challenging conditions.“The result could have gone either way and I’d have still been happy with everything that they tried to do.“They’re really trying to hone in on the message we’re giving them, and they’re trying to play football the way we want them to, despite the obvious challenge at the weekend.“We got our just rewards for that on Saturday.
