East Kilbride boss responds to Motherwell criticism over Logan Dunachie loan

East Kilbride boss Kevin Rutkiewicz has defended his handling of Motherwell loan player Logan Dunachie following criticism from Fir Park boss Steven Hammell.The 18-year-old defender has returned to the Scottish Premiership side after a six-month loan spell and while Kilby would be keen to see him return for the remainder of their Lowland League campaign, Rutkiewicz admits that now seems unlikely after Hammell – who is assisted at Motherwell by ex-Kilby gaffer Brian Kerr – revealed he wasn’t satisfied with the amount of game time the centre-back received at K-Park.Dunachie was an unused substitute for Motherwell during their 1-1 draw with Ross County on Saturday and asked if the defender would be returning to Kilby, Hammell said: “We don’t know if he will be going back.“Every game he has played he has done really well but he didn’t play as much as we wanted and he got left out a few times when he probably shouldn’t have, so that is something we will need to assess.“He is a good option for us, but he is still young.“He trains well, he is progressing well and he is one we have high hopes for."He was at EK for six months and we’ll see how the next six months of his season looks.”Dunachie has played several games for Kilby during a spell which has seen them slide down the table to sixth in a very-tight battle at the top end of the fifth tier.Responding to the criticism, Rutkiewicz said: “From those comments, I’d say our chances of getting him back are very slim.
