A hall committee is set to raise the roof after hitting the lottery jackpot. Haugh of Urr Village Hall has received £20,000 from the National Lottery’s Community Fund.
The money will go towards refurbishing the hall extension – including replacing the leaking roof. Hall committee treasurer, Peter Jordan, said: “We have just spent some money on putting external cladding around the main body of the hall. “This is the left behind bit at the back, which is a bit tatty and knackered. “There’s what used to be a kitchen that’s now not used for anything and there are complaints about the ladies toilet. “We’re going to refurbish the whole thing, smarten up the toilets and knock the kitchen and storeroom together into another smaller user room. “We have the big hall, which we rent out, and this will give us another room for smaller groups.” The cost of the project is around £50,000, with the lottery cash the final piece of the funding package.
The project has gone out to tender with builders and it is hoped work could begin on the busy hall within a month. Mr Jordan added: “We get all sorts of things – from pilates to chair aerobics, a nursery group, young farmers and badminton.”
