Dalziel Rugby Club celebrated its 100th anniversary with a blockbusting night of film and sporting action.A century after their inaugural match against Uddingston on Saturday, 26 January, 1924 – played against a gnarly backdrop of emergent industry – the current squad hosted their local rivals once again at the, now, well-manicured grounds of Dalziel Park, Motherwell.Just before the Friday night action kicked off under floodlights, the club unveiled a short film, illuminating its incredible evolution through tumultuous social change, war and laterally a global pandemic.“The club’s centenary marks a landmark achievement,” explained club president Willie Talbot.“As the film shows, that journey has been characterised by moments of joy, achievement, heartbreak, and hope“There’s been many heroes, and many who have given selflessly.“It’s a real life story with a cast of characters who have all shaped our present identity, and we hold the values of dedication, determination, and family very dearly.“We were absolutely delighted to host Uddingston 100 years after that very first game.

Who would’ve known back then that the team of 15 men would have grown into the thriving, inclusive, and welcoming community that Dalziel is today.“The atmosphere here was incredible on Friday night, a testament to all we’ve built together as a club.”Willie added: “We have many events planned throughout the year, this being one of the highlights.

We’re remembering our past, enjoying our moment now, and we look forward to the next 100 years with enormous optimism.”A Dalziel side, running red hot and wearing a replica of an early strip, ran in a score of 73-0.
