dailyrecord.co.ukBiggar Rugby Club were big winners at the 2023 Clydesdale Sports Council Awards on Friday night.The club’s under-16 and under-18 squads were joint-winners of the girls’ Team of the Year.Emma Orr followed up last year’s Senior Female award with the runners-up award this time around.Fergus Watson – who scored pone of Scotland’s tries against Italy in the U20 Six Nations match on Friday evening – picked up Senior Male winner.Nigel Pacey won Volunteer of the Year, and Ian Notman gained a Merit award in the same category during the event at Cornhill Castle.Biggar conceded their Scottish Cup first round tie at home to Marr due to injuries and unavailability, with the decision taken during the week due to a shortage of forwards in particular.Biggar’s Ladies won their third National Shield match 50-7 at Oban Lorne on Sunday, maintaining their unbeaten run in this competition.Their final Shied match is at home to Kelso on March 24, who are currently second in their mini-league.Last Saturday’s defeat at Dundee to close Biggar 1st XV’s National League 1 campaign also brought to an end Davie Wilson’s tenure as Biggar coach.Wilson arrived as assistant to Gary Mercer in 2016 and has been at Hartree Mill for eight seasons, four of which were as head coach, and was responsible for a championship and a promotion in successive seasons.A club spokesperson said: “An eight-year tenure is longer than most coaches enjoy, this a clear testimony to the work Davey has accomplished.“Captain Andy Jardine made an excellent post-match vote of thanks to Davey after the Dundee match, thanking him for his time at Biggar, and remarking that with just a couple of exceptions, Davey had given all present their first opportunity to play 1st XV rugby.“The
