Dad jailed after driving car at woman and knocking her down

A young dad has been jailed for 21 months after driving a car at a woman and knocking her off her feet.Luckily, Carrie Nicholson was not injured when the Renault Megane hit her in Airbles Street, Motherwell.Daniel Baronio, 28, and Bradley Fisher, 22, were sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week after pleading guilty to charges at an earlier hearing.Baronio, of Waverley Crescent, Livingston, admitted assaulting Ms Nicolson to the danger of her life by driving a car at her on December 6, 2020.Fisher, of Eastfield Road, Fauldhouse, admitted attempting to strike John Scott Main with a knife.Chloe O'Hara, prosecuting, said the trouble happened after the victims left a flat in Airbles Tower just after midnight.She told the court: "They were crossing the road when Mr Main heard a male voice shouting and turned to see Fisher in possession of a large knife."Fisher ran towards him, lunged at him and swung the knife in an attempt to strike him."Ms Nicholson swung her handbag towards Fisher, trying to stop him."Then she saw a blue car being driven towards her.

She managed to get on to the pavement out of the way."However, she then went back on to the road and the car turned and started towards her again.

This time it struck her and she landed on the bonnet then fell to the ground."The car was thereafter driven off at speed. Fortunately, Ms Nicholson was not injured."She recognised the car and knew it was owned by Baronio."Ms O'Hara said a man sitting in another vehicle witnessed the events and contacted the police.Defence agent Diarmid Bruce, who represented both accused, said they'd reacted to something that had been said to a female earlier.Referring to the car incident, Mr Bruce said: "He hasn't driven at any great speed
