David Proctor has warned his Cumbernauld Colts players not to get carried away after stunning defending Lowland League champions East Kilbride on Saturday. The Broadwood boss watched his charges earn a 2-1 home win thanks to goals from Zak McKay and Danny Hatfield, either side of David Ferguson’s second half equaliser for EK.It is a result that will make the rest of the fifth tier stop and take notice, but Proctor – whose side did stick with EK at the top of the table for a large chunk of last season before falling away – was keen to play down the win as a statement of intent for their aspirations this season, and told his stars to keep their feet on the ground. He said: “On our day, we believe we can give anyone a game and be competitive.

But I certainly wouldn’t be making any statements about where we want to end up at the end of the season. It is a long season.

East Kilbride will lick their wounds and come back strongly.“Our squad isn’t as strong as East Kilbride’s but we know that, on our day, we can go and compete, but there are injuries over a course of a season you need to contend with.“We have already had injuries to Cole McIntyre, Craig Malcolm and Scott Dunn, while Billy Mortimer is still unavailable, so we are going into games with that squad depth already being tested.

We just need to make sure we are consistent. That will be the key and we’ll see where it takes us.“It is a good start and that is all it is.
