A couple who said they 'didn't want to spend too much money on just one day' have shared their money saving tips after they managed to tie the knot for under £3,000.

Lauren Vickery-Young, 25, and Connor Young, 33, decided to have a cut-price wedding, saying 'life is stressful enough' without having the 'pressure' of organising a big white wedding.

The pair tied the knot on September 23 at their local registry office, and spent a total of £2,721 - including just £200 on Lauren's charity shop wedding dress. They also relied on friends and family to take pictures on their phones and skipped getting a professional photographer. Lauren said the couple are 'both from working-class families' and were 'brought up knowing the true value of money'. "We were always taught that if you can't afford it, you can't have it," she said. "I don't think either of us would want to spend so much money for just one day." Connor, a banker, popped the question in December last year and the pair started planning their wedding the following May.
