Steven J. Horowitz Senior Music Writer Chief Keef, a pioneer in the inception and rise of drill music, is getting his own documentary, Variety can exclusively report.
Kenya Barris‘ Khalabo Ink Society is partnering with Lyrical Lemonade and Cole Bennett to chronicle the Chicago native’s trajectory.
The film, directed by Bennett and produced by Barris and Khalabo’s Jeremy Allen, will capture Keef’s rise, hiatus and recent return to the city.
It will examine Chicago’s influence on Keef’s life and career, as well as his impact on the city’s music scene and beyond. Other notable players in the untitled documentary include Lyrical Lemonade’s Jake Millan and Krista Worby, who will executive produce the project alongside Khalabo Ink Society’s Emile Geneve and Idris Dykes.
