Financial pressure can start to mount over the festive season and it’s important for every household to make sure they are not missing out on any additional support they are entitled to.

This includes checking your eligibility for a Council Tax Reduction (CTR), a unique discount only available to people living in Scotland, that could reduce your annual bill by an average of £750.Even though the new Council Tax year started in April, most households choose to pay their annual bill through monthly instalments - usually over 10 or 12 months.

However, entitlement to a CTR could see people receive a lump sum back payment or credit added to their bill. Many people could be eligible for a Council Tax discount or reduction of between 25 and 100 per cent, potentially saving hundreds of pounds each year.

The upcoming festive season is also the perfect time to have a look at boosting your finances before the new year begins and putting in claims or applications for help you may be entitled to.
