Cars left submerged in water as heavy downpours batter streets of Scots town

Cars have been submerged in water after heavy rainfall battered the streets of a Scots town last night. Residents on Kilmacolm Road in Greenock, Inverclyde, woke up to their vehicles sinking into flood water thought to be around one meter deep.

Images from the scene show four cars affected by the adverse conditions as the street is pictured swamped by the downpour. It comes as the Met Office issued a danger to life weather warning for parts of Scotland.

An amber alert is in place for heavy rain in areas including Dumfries and Galloway as well as the Scottish Borders.And weather warnings for rain, snow and ice have also been issued for other parts of the country.

Weather forecasters have warned residents to expect around 40-50mm (up to 2 inches) of rain around the area.A yellow warning for rain is in place in much of the central belt and southern parts of Scotland.
