Bungling Scots cop left handbrake off before car rolled down hill and smashed into house

A bungling police officer destroyed part of a house and left the owner injured when she forgot to put on her handbrake and her car rolled out of control.PC Rachel Hutchison's empty Fiat 500 rolled off downhill and crossed a junction before slamming into a home and smashing two of the external walls.Shocked John McNeil was sitting at his desk when the car ploughed into his home and shunted a bed against his ankle and injured him.Hutchison, 25, admitted leaving her car in the street without the parking brake engaged in Juniper Place, Perth, on 19 January last year.Fiscal depute Sarah Wilkinson told Perth Sheriff Court: "At 4.15pm the accused arrived at Juniper Place and parked her Fiat 500 next to the kerb, facing downhill."She exited and attended a property there.

The car had been left in neutral but the handbrake had not been set correctly."The vehicle rolled down the hill towards Alder Drive.

It was observed by witnesses and did not appear to slow down."It proceeded through the junction across Alder Drive and went through a small gap between two parked cars then mounted the pavement."It entered the garden of 52 Alder Drive before colliding with its wall.

At the time Mr McNeil was within the address and sitting at the desk immediately to the foot of the bed, which rested against the external wall."The vehicle caused significant damage to the brickwork of the wall, knocked the bed from the wall, and caused the foot of the bed to collide with Mr McNeil's ankle."Witnesses exited the property and observed the vehicle.
