Carol McGiffin breaks silence after 'Covid conspiracy comments led to Loose Women exit'

Reports have emerged today that suggest Carol McGiffin quit her role as a panellist on Loose Women after she made comments in public about the Covid-19 pandemic.The 63-year-old presenter is understood to have become embroiled in a spat with ITV bosses over the question of free speech and expression.

In an interview she gave with TNT talk radio, Carol allegedly prompted the disagreement due to comments she made to suggest that news organisations had been "brainwashing" the public over the risks of Covid in order to spark widespread mental health breakdowns across the nation.The lunch-time talk-show panellist - who has appeared on the programme since the early 2000s - also suggested the then health secretary Matt Hancock attempted to bring Covid patients from France to the UK to fill empty hospital beds during the height of the pandemic.

This morning saw the former journalist tweet about the situation, teasing the idea that it was her position on coronavirus issues that forced her to pack her bags.The star shared a thinking face emoji on Twitter as she quote-tweeted an article with the headline: "Loose Women star Carol McGiffin quit show over COVID conspiracy views." The Mail on Sunday suggests that the channel has since been flooded with complaints following Carol’s radio interview, with pressure suddenly mounting for her to be fired.

She told radio hosts: "I always look back at when I started working in television and radio as the good old days because they were much less policed, I suppose.
