Callander Miss Scotland hopeful takes to the skies for charity challenge inspired by dad

It’s a busy time for Callander teenager Cassie Gudgeon - as she prepares to compete for the title of Miss Scotland and take to the skies today (Friday) for a charity close to her heart.The 18-year-old, who went to McLaren High School, is one of 10 finalists in the competition, which gathered entrants from all over Scotland, with a glittering final set to take place later this year.The next stage of the competition sees Cassie asked to take part in a series of challenges including sporting and fashion tests and an article on a chosen charity, with the points from these contests adding up to who is given the coveted crown.But alongside all of that, Cassie has been busy raising money and awareness of the Throat Cancer Foundation after the disease played a major role in her own life.For her latest fundraising idea, Cassie has taken it up a notch with a skydive today with all proceeds once again going to the Throat Cancer Foundation.Cassie explained: “My chosen charity for Miss Scotland is the Throat Cancer Foundation, although I have actually been working with them prior to my Miss Scotland journey.“In early 2023, my dad Ralston was diagnosed with a HPV related throat cancer.

This was a very difficult time for me and my family. Watching someone you are so close to and love so much go through something like that and be so helpless is terrifying.“Thankfully my dad responded very well to his treatment and is on the road to becoming cancer free but, because of this, I wanted to do something to raise money and awareness for HPV related throat, head and neck cancers.”That support has seen Cassie raise more than £3,000 to date through talks at Callander Golf Club and spreading the word on her social media channels.Her Miss Scotland
