Buffalo Bills' Damar Hamlin Shares His Journey of Recovery and Overcoming Trauma from Cardiac Arrest

Damar Hamlin has given his first interview since he suffered cardiac arrest on the football field in January.

If you recall, the 24-year-old Buffalo Bills athlete was resuscitated on the field and then taken to a nearby hospital for after care.

Since then, Damar has made a huge recovery and is now opening up to Michael Strahan on Good Morning America about what happened that day, and his future in the NFL. Keep reading to find out more… “I’m just thankful [God] gave me a second chance just to live normally and just come out almost without a scratch on me,” Damar told Michael on the program. “Just to be able to keep going.” He went on, revealing that he is “still trying to process all the emotions and the trauma that comes from dealing with a situation like that and not really having people around or no one in my immediate circle who’s dealt with something like that.” Damar also spoke about the causes of the cardiac incident, saying that he and his doctors are still trying to find out the circumstances of what led to it. “[It’s] something I can’t even describe yet; something I’m still processing; something I’m still trying to work through,” he shared. “Why’d it happen to me?” Damar also shined a light on Denny Kellington, the assistant athletic trainer for the Buffalo Bills who performed CPR on him the moment he collapsed. “I owe Denny my life,” he said. “He loves to say he was just doing his job, which is true, you know?

And that night, he was literally the savior of my life.” As for when Damar will be back on the field, he says he doesn’t have an answer just yet. “They can’t really tell,” he says. “It’s a long road, and they’re just worried about trying to get me back to normal as much as they can.” Over the weekend,
