A BBC iPlayer app is set to shut down for good tomorrow, with users on some devices blocked from watching shows. The BBC announced back in February that it was discontinuing one of its television-viewing apps, with the block coming into full effect from Monday, April 8.

This significant change means the iPlayer service designed for PCs will cease to function and it seems unlikely that it will ever be reinstated.

The BBC said in a post on its website: "We have made the difficult decision to close the BBC iPlayer Downloads application for PC and Mac, due to the low number of people using it and the cost required to keep it going." In February, the BBC prevented any new users from installing the PC app onto their devices. Then, last month, users were barred from watching new content or downloading shows onto their hard drives, reports the Mirror.
