Sheridan Smith has said she's 'honoured' as her next role has been revealed as she moves on from the early close of her West End play.
It has been confirmed that the actress will play the leading role in a gritty new drama set to air on ITV. Sheridan will portray Ann Ming, the mother who battled to change the law after her daughter Julie Hogg was murdered by her ex-partner in 1989.
After fighting for 15 years, Ann succeeded in changing the 800-year-old "double jeopardy" law, which meant people couldn't be tried twice for the same crime.
Four-part series I Fought the Law will tell the real-life story, recounting how the tenacious mother of three battled for 15 years so that her daughter’s murderer could finally face justice, having been controversially acquitted following two mistrials.
