It’s Gold Cup day at Ayr as one of the most valuable sprint handicaps in Europe takes place in Scotland.William Haggas may have had the disappointment of announcing that Baaeed won’t be heading to France for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe but the handler could see those same colours being brought to bear by market leader Khanjar.

The progressive three-year-old is a winner of two of his three starts this season and he is a very warm favourite for honours today. There have been plenty of back-to-back big race winners during 2022 so Bielsa, who won the prize in 2021 is going to be no pushover as he’ll contest this year’s renewal off just a 1lb higher mark in the handicap.

Elsewhere on the card, the evergreen Euchen Glen will bid to land the Doonside Cup for Jim Goldie. The nine-year-old will need to give weight and a beating to rising star Phantom Flight on this occasion.

We also have racing today at Newbury, where there are three Group contests on the card along with Newmarket and Catterick Bridge. As ever, Garry Owen will be along to help us find the winners.
