Tributes have poured in for Andy Murray after the Scot played his final professional tennis match at the Olympics.Murray and doubles partner Dan Evans put up a valant performance in the quarter final match of the Paris Olympics at Roland Garros tonight, August 1, but were beaten in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 by American pair Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul.Murray announced before the tournament that he'd decided to call time on his career after years of chronic injury issues.And on Thursday night, there were thunder claps and pouring rain in Paris as Sir Andy said farewell to the game.He told how he had been warned of the terrible legacy of the cyst on his back if he carried on playing.Tennis has taken a devastating toll on his body.

But he said with a wry smile: “I gave it a good go.“The past 19 years have been an incredible journey really. I got into the top position in the world rankings and obviously when you get to Grand Slam finals, you are disappointed.“But if you go right back to the beginning in Scotland, even as a teenager at 18 or 19 years old, I could never have dreamed of what I have achieved.“I would never have expected it, and people doubted me even then, my talent, my work ethic.

So to do what I have done in my career - it has been incredible.“I have learned lots of lessons from sport and I will use them now.

But I have no idea what I am going to do. I will spend some time with the kids and be a parent, maybe do nothing - and if that is what I end up doing, then that will be fine too.“You journalists are a lovely bunch really but I was not that good at English at school so I am not sure that is for me.
