Andy Murray has bravely dedicated his Davis Cup win to grandmother Ellen after he revealed he missed her funeral to take part in the match in Manchester.
The tennis icon ensured team Great Britain got off to a winning start in the round robin against Switzerland, beating Leandro Riedi 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 6-4 before admitting to the crowd inside the AO Arena it was his gran's funeral on Friday.
Struggling to contain his emotion, Murray admitted "I'm sorry to my family I'm not able to be there. Gran, this one is for you." The 36-year-old then returned to his chair and put his head under his towel, before receiving a warm round of applause from the crowd south of the border.
Britain is aiming for a place in November's eight-team knockout stage, and the Scot's win means Cameron Norrie can seal a win over the Swiss by beating Stan Wawrinka later on Friday.
