The huge Greater Manchester-wide blueprint for ‘housing, jobs, and growth’, can finally move forward following a government review.
The plan, which only covers nine Greater Manchester boroughs - Stockport being the odd one out - will now go out for another round of public consultation.
Stockport left the ‘Greater Manchester Spatial Framework’, as it was originally called, in December 2020 after then-opposition councillors blocked its approval. In a blow to Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and Paul Dennett, the Mayor of Salford who is tasked with delivering the masterplan, the city-region was forced to move with a ‘plan of nine’.
Today’s development is that government inspectors have approved that plan — called Places for Everyone (PfE) — and recommended councils to launch a new public consultation.
